I grew up in a multi-ethnic community in a small town in Western Pennsylvania. I moved to the multi-cultural city of Miami after high school.
I wrote some poetry while in high school, but I was not a big reader. After moving to Miami, I began writing more poetry and fell in love with reading. Reading became a way to dream and to escape. Writing became a way to express myself.
I love to travel. I kept a travelogue and started photo-journals from all the places I visited.
All the ideas of producing my craft came to fruition a year ago when I decided to blog. I have been writing ever since. I decided after taking a course in Flash Fiction, which is a fancy way of saying short stories, that this was the style format I wanted to write.
I have been influenced by the following writers: Walt Whitman, Jim Morrison, William Least-Heat Moon, Langston Hughes, Jack Kerouac, Donald Goines, J.D. Salinger, James Baldwin, and Marshall Boyd.
Illustrations: I have been drawing and painting since I was very young. Initially, I began to add illustrations as a marketing tool. After one year of posting my flash fiction on my website, these drawings gained popularity.
These are the artist that have made an impact on my illustrations: Charley Harper, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Dorothy Bailey Stancato, my mother ( I saved the best for last).
My motto is: Stay local, write from my experiences, and to write from my heart.
